South Korea was tied in Group B with North Korea, China and Thailand in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) draw for the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 18th.

Although North Korea does not have a FIFA ranking, it is evaluated as an Asian powerhouse. The opponent record is 1 win, 3 draws and 15 losses, and Korea is absolutely inferior. The first and last victory was 18 years ago. The only win was a 1-0 victory in the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) Cup (East Asian Cup) in August 2005. Since then, it has been sluggish with 12 matches (2 draws and 10 losses) without a win. The most recent match, the East Asian Cup held in Japan in July 2017, was also lost 0-1.

China is also a tough opponent. It is 13th in the FIFA rankings, 4 places higher than Korea (17th). With a total record of 4 wins, 8 draws and 29 losses, Korea is completely inferior. The latest victory was the East Asian Cup (1-0) held in Wuhan, China in August 2015. Since then, they have only won 9 games (3 draws and 6 losses) against China. Another negative factor is that the Group B match of the second qualifying round will be held in China.

Thailand, ranked 44th in the FIFA rankings, is at least weak. In terms of opponents, Korea leads with 7 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses, including the recent 4 wins in a row.

The second qualifying round will be held from October 23rd to November 1st this year. Twelve countries are divided into three groups for the group stage. The detailed match date and venue have not been set.

Australia, Taiwan, Philippines and Iran in Group A will face off in Australia, and Group C Japan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and India will face off in Uzbekistan. 1st place in each group of the 2nd qualifying round will go directly to the final qualifying round. The team with the best results among the second place in the group will also advance to the final round.

The final qualifiers will be held on February 24 and 28, 2024. Four countries, two each, will determine the owners of the two Olympic finals tickets in a home-and-away match.
