“We’re back on track, and we’re going to play baseball like KT”…Wizard Corps vows to return to winning ways in Korea
“We will play baseball like KT.”
The KT Wizards, coached by Lee Kang-cheol, are finding their feet. They have won four in a row and have had three consecutive winning series. 16 wins, 26 losses and two ties. Tied for ninth place with the Hanwha Eagles. Half a game behind the eighth-placed Kiwoom Heroes (19 wins, 28 losses) and a game and a half behind the seventh-placed Samsung Lions (18 wins, 25 losses).안전놀이터
After suffering more losses than wins at the start of the season, including a nine-game losing streak and a six-game losing streak amid a string of injuries to key players, KT is now poised for a rebound.
Uhm Sang-baek, who was sidelined with an elbow injury early in the season, has also been adding strength to the KT mound. He has pitched 11 innings of one-run ball in his last two games. In particular, on the 25th of this month against Suwon Kiwoom, he pitched six innings of four-hit ball with one walk and four strikeouts to secure his third win of the season. His performance against Kiwoom improved his record to 3-0 with a 2.92 ERA.
“My elbow doesn’t hurt anymore, so I’m throwing comfortably. I’ve adjusted a lot,” he laughed.
After a slow start in April due to injury, Uhm went 1-1 with a 0.53 ERA in three starts, but his first two games in May were not good. He gave up five runs in four innings against Hanwha on the 7th and five runs in five innings against the Lotte Giants in Suwon on the 13th.
He said, “It’s all my fault. Against Hanwha, the weather was bad and it was a day game. I had a lot of ‘should I or shouldn’t I’ moments. I don’t think I was in good shape afterwards,” he said.
The team and Uhm Sang-baek are rebounding. The breakthrough is in sight.
Uhm said, “We have to rebound now. We have to play baseball like KT. We are finally playing the baseball we played last year and the year before. We’ve found some stabilisation. It’s important for the starters to pitch well and the bullpen to shut them down,” he said encouragingly.
“Jae-Sung is holding up well now that Hyung-Jun is gone. “Personally, I want to play a full season without getting sick, and I’ll make sure I don’t fall apart,” he said.
