“The pitchers gave 100 per cent,” says Lee as he gears up for ‘last place escape’

KT Wiz swept a three-game weekend series behind strong pitching performances and clutch instincts from its leadoff hitters.

KT won the ninth game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the Doosan Bears 5-2 on 4 April at KT Wiz Park in Suwon. The win followed a 13-3 victory the previous day to end the week on a high note.

KT struggled in the first inning, as Lee Sun-woo, who started the game on a temporary basis, gave up two runs on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. However, after falling behind 0-2 in the second inning, Kim Sang-soo’s RBI double and Kang Baek-ho’s RBI single turned the game around and the lead was never relinquished.안전놀이터

Joo Kwon, Son Dong-hyun and Park Young-hyun combined to shut down the Doosan bats with two scoreless innings, while Jang Jang-woo’s RBI double in the fifth and Park Byung-ho’s RBI single in the sixth extended the lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the ninth, Kim Jae-yoon put an end to Doosan’s last stand with a triple play.

KT has won two straight games and maintained a one-game gap between the ninth-placed Hanwha Eagles and eighth-placed Kiwoom Heroes. While they still sit at the bottom of the table, they have gained a foothold to look towards next week’s tiebreaker.

KT manager Lee Kang-cheol expressed his satisfaction after the game, saying, “All the pitchers in the bullpen, including starter Lee Sun-woo, did their job 100 per cent,” adding, “I also want to praise Jang Sung-woo for his situational pitching.”

“We needed to score early because it was a bullpen day, but after we gave up a run, Kim Sang-soo and Kang Baek-ho came back with RBI singles to set the tone. Additional hits by Jang Sung-woo and Park Byung-ho sealed the victory,” he said. “I would like to thank all the players for their hard work during the week and the fans for their support.”
