Round of 16 draw confirmed, wildcards are Nigeria-New Zealand-Slovakia-Tunisia…Japan-France eliminated

The round of 16 for the U-20 World Cup has been finalised.

Kim Eun-joong’s U-20s drew 0-0 with Gambia in their third Group F match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Mendoza Stadium in Mendoza, Argentina, on 29 June. With all the group matches completed, the round of 16 has also been outlined. The third wild card was drawn as Nigeria-New Zealand-Slovakia-Tunisia. New Zealand will face the United States, Nigeria will face hosts Argentina, Slovakia will face Colombia, and Tunisia will face powerhouse Brazil. The other round of 16 matches will pit Uzbekistan against Israel and Italy against England. South Korea will face Ecuador for the first time since four years ago. The match will take place on the 2nd of next month.

Japan, on the other hand, was eliminated from the group stage. With three points, they were tied with Slovakia, Tunisia, and France, but lost on goal difference (-1). France, the favourites, beat Honduras in their final group game, but failed to earn a wild card.
