Minnesota’s Duran throws 168.3 mph fastball…highest in big leagues this year

Minnesota Twins’ Joan Duran (25) threw the fastest ball in the major leagues this season.

Duran threw a 104.6 miles per hour (168.3 kilometres per hour) fastball against the San Francisco Giants at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S., on 25 April.

It is the fastest fastball in the major leagues this season.

The previous highs were 103.8 mph by Jordan Hicks (St. Louis Cardinals) on 31 March and Aroldis Chapman (Kansas City Royals) on 17 July.안전놀이터

He also broke his own career high fastball. Duran’s previous fastball was 103.8 mph on 28 September last year.

Duran is only the eighth pitcher in history to throw 104 mph or higher since pitch tracking was introduced in 2008.

Duran, who took the mound in the top of the ninth inning with his team leading 7-1, threw a 100.3-mph splitter to first baseman Blake Sabol and a 103.8-mph four-seam fastball for his second pitch.

After getting Sabol to swing and miss with back-to-back fastballs, he threw Wilmer Flores three straight fastballs – 103.3 mph, 104.4 mph and 104.6 mph – but Flores fouled them all off with three consecutive foul balls before taking a 90.3 mph curveball for a double.

With two on and two out, Duran fouled off Casey Schmidt with back-to-back 100-mph pitches before inducing a swinging strike on a 104-mph four-seam fastball to end the game.
