‘It’s bigger than the cup size regulation’… KPGA Srixon Tour 1st qualifying round canceled

Due to inexperienced game management by the Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA), the first qualifying round for the 2023 Srixon Tour (Part 2), which was scheduled to be held at TGV Country Club, was canceled.

On the 21st, the KPGA announced, “The first round, which was scheduled to be held on the 20th, will be canceled as the cup specifications of the competition course were exceeded.” We ask for your understanding that we made this decision after judging that it was an inappropriate situation to proceed with the Dala competition.” The canceled event will be held on the 27th.

A player who participated in the tournament held at TGV Country Club in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do on the 20th asked the KPGA that the size of the cup seemed to be larger than usual. According to the rules of golf, the cup size must be 108 mm in diameter and at least 101.6 mm deep, and the cylinder must be buried at least 25 mm below the ground. However, it is known that the size of the cup for this tournament was larger than the regulation at 114mm in diameter.

Earlier, an informant told Edaily, “The association did not accurately notify the players of the reason for the cancellation. It was the golf course game department staff, not the association, who explained the reason for the cancellation to the players. The chairman of the competition or the staff of the association should give the players detailed explanations and explain the operation of the event later, but when the players gathered in front of the clubhouse, there was no one there, so they were confused,” he said, expressing his anger.

In response, a KPGA official said, “We had no choice but to request cooperation from the golf course competition department to quickly inform the players of the situation, and the competition department official explained the situation to the players.”

“As we previously contacted all players who participated in the 1st preliminary round individually, we will fully waive the golf course fee (green fee, cart fee, caddy fee), and we will also refund the full amount of the tournament participation fee as a consolation for the inconvenience caused to the participating players. We have decided to waive it,” he explained.

However, the players said, “I can’t understand that the preliminary date was changed to the 27th without communication. After the preliminaries on the 27th, they have to move to the Solago Country Club (Taean, Chungcheongnam-do) for the finals on the 28th and 29th. It is not fair to the players who have previously held qualifying rounds at seven golf courses.” 먹튀검증

The first qualifying round for the Srixon Tour was held at 8 golf courses, including TGV Country Club, Solago, and Gimcheon Podo Country Club in North Gyeongsang Province.

TGV Country Club declined to comment, saying, “We have nothing to explain about the cup standard.” The association’s match committee also revealed inexperienced game management problems, such as not noticing that the cup size was larger in a preliminary survey. I went to visit the US Professional Golf (PGA) Tour Sony Open last month, saying I would experience advanced tours and strengthen global competitiveness, but from the start of the 2023 season, I left regrets about the operation.

KPGA announced an explanation of the situation and a solution on its official website and said, “I feel a great sense of responsibility for this issue and will humbly accept various reprimands. In addition, we will thoroughly establish and implement countermeasures to prevent this from happening again in the future.”
