Eunji Lee took the touchpad with a record of 2 minutes 13 seconds 65 in the women’s 200m backstroke semifinals at the 2023 Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships held at Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall in Fukuoka, Japan on the 28th.

Eunji Lee, who placed 16th out of 16 contestants in her field, missed out on her ticket to the finals, given to her top eight finishers.

Her record difference with 8th place Jenna Forester (2:09:74, Australia), who was the last to qualify for the finals, was 3:91.

Lee Eun-ji, who came in 14th in the women’s 200m backstroke preliminaries with a time of 2:11:78, was unable to exert herself in the semifinals, perhaps because of poor physical condition. By the 50m mark, she raced in 5th place, but slipped in place and finished last.

Her time of 2:13.65 in her semifinal was about two seconds later than her heat. She also fell well short of her own best in the event, her 2:09.72.

Eunji Lee completed all of her individual events at this event. Previously, she placed 19th (28:40) and 18th (1:00:56) in the women’s 50m and 100m backstroke, respectively, and unfortunately she was eliminated from the preliminary round.

Still, Lee Eun-ji also set a new Korean record of 3:47:09 with Choi Dong-yeol (Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province), Kim Young-beom (Gangwon Physical Education High School), and Heo Yeon-gyeong (Bangsan High School) in the 400m medley relay team event on the 26th.
